So what does Cambium mean? The cambium is the system that facilitates healthy growth within most vascular plants, such as trees and other woody plants. The cambium layer is responsible for managing the increase of plant girth and producing the protective bark. Given our mission statement to support sustainable development and practices within the various aspects of our communities; the name Cambium was a perfect fit.

In May 2006 Cambium Environmental Inc. completed the purchase of the Environmental Services Consulting Group from SGS Lakefield Research Limited.  The Environmental Services Consulting Group has been providing timely, cost-effective solutions to public and private sector clients since 1989. The creation of Cambium Environmental Inc. allows both organizations to better direct their focus on their respective core businesses. Cambium Environmental Inc. is proud of its origins with Lakefield Research Limited, in Lakefield, Ontario and more recently with SGS.
