Cambium Environmental Inc. personnel have the ability to measure, monitor, model, and design solutions for industrial and environmental noise control. Our noise professionals focus on measurement, mitigation, and isolation of noise, generally related to manufacturing, mechanical equipment, processing, and many other sources.
Noise Impact Investigations
The impact from unwanted sound (noise) is becoming a leading aspect in compliance issues in Canada. Facilities in Ontario are required to meet strict requirements set by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) under Section 9 of the Environmental Protection Act. Environmental noise is controlled and permitted by a Certificate of Approval (CofA) for Air and Noise which generally require acoustic assessments to ensure regulatory noise limits are not exceeded.
Cambium Environmental has engineers who are experts in:
Conducting detailed acoustic assessments
Performing acoustic audits |
Managing noise abatement projects |
Cambium will work closely with our clients to characterize and solve various noise related problems and compliance issues including CofA applications, acoustic assessments, environmental noise impact studies and acoustical audits.
Testing
Acoustical measurements are generally required to characterize the sources of noise and the related impact on the surrounding environment. Cambium Environmental personnel are extensively trained and experienced in conducting noise measurements for various applications. We use calibrated, state-of-the-art instrumentation and measurement techniques to accurately determine the sound power level of the noise producing source.
Acoustical Modelling
The potential noise impact a Facility’s operations may have on selected points of reception in the vicinity of the Site can be calculated using advanced software mandated by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and compliant with ISO 9613-2 (A Standard for Outdoor Noise Propagation).
The model uses acceptable noise propagation algorithms, site characteristics and data collected for the source(s) of noise to determine the level of noise that will propagate from the Site into the surrounding area (Points of Reception). The software utilized uses algorithms and 3D visualization of the predicted noise emissions, often referred to as acoustic mapping. The software calculates the resultant noise level and takes into account a range of factors affecting the propagation of sound including elevation, ground terrain and vegetation.
Reporting and Approvals
Cambium Environmental will work with your company to achieve and strong Certificate of Approval Application by:
Preparing all application forms; |
Conducting detailed acoustical assessment audits; |
Reporting in accordance with the MOE procedures; |
Specifying noise controls; and, |
If necessary, developing noise control plans. |
All Acoustic Assessment reports prepared by Cambium are prepared following the MOE noise pollution control (NPC) guidelines and protocols and Ministry of the Environment Standards. Applications will not be sent unless we are certain they will be accepted by the Ministry.
